Hi how are you today?

No not yet Dolly about another 2/3 weeks if she arrives on time! Don't worry everyone will know when she does make an appearance I'll be shouting from the roof tops!!

Nice to hear from you and hope you get sorted with your meds .Regards the tearful phase I'm actually seeing a therapist from the 'Let's Talk' team, and I'm feeling a lot better thank you. As you say one day is never the same as the other there's is always something......but hey ho we all grin and bear it and as the song goes 'carry on regardless'. Hope your  hubby is well also. Keep enjoying those eclairs they always say a little of what you fancy does you good, but  in moderation!

Luv Sheila x

Hi Dolly  I have not been on here for ages, hope you a doing OK and that your OH is doing as well as he was when I was last here.  I think we are all different on different meds with different symptoms but all have Parky.  Some times my tabs just do not seem to work too well land other days they are fine I think it depends on a lot of things.  All I know is that when they do not work it is a 'pain in the ????'.

Anyway keep as well as u can.

Keep rocking

p.s has Fedex been on here recently I wonder if he is OK?

Luv Wye

Hi all

It seems quite a while since anyone had posted.  Trust you tenacious lot are still doing ok - I need you!  (Especially on a day like today - plenty of that wet stuff here and the cold that bites down into your bones - you know what I mean)

I finished the book for the family in time for Christmas and am now on number 2.  It took a little time to work myself up to allocating a time for it most days.  but here goes!  6pm to 8pm each night except the holy one.

Other than that things are not too bad at all, Cant grumble in fact I seem to have gone on a lucky phase just recently - perhaps I should do the lottery.

Mainly I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you

Regards

Astoriasis

Hi, Astoriasis --

If it's any consolation, it is a grey day here in Oregon as well -- cold and drizzly.  But I am staying indoors most of the day, will probably work on my latest writing projects.  My poetry book, Artfulness and Old Lace, has been doing well on Amazon, so I am preparing a book combining essays and poems now.  Having a big project to focus on is one way I keep my spirits up, especially during a dreary winter.

I do have some travel plans to look forward to.  Every year I think, "This may be the last year I feel confident enough to travel independently."  So I make reservations.  But so far I still manage to get around, towing my own suitcase.  I think of my progress in PD as stumbling occasionally, but not yet falling.  That is, I am surely aware of my symptoms, but they do not yet impede my actions.

Good to hear from you again!

J

I am pleased you are feeling much better Sheffy and that you are getting benefit from the "Lets Talk" team, that is brilliant news....and still have your little babe to look forward to bless her. Yes thank you Mr D is doing so well, he appreciates everything and every day. When you have been so terribly ill and i was so close to losing him it turns your life around thats for sure. His PSA has dropped from 22.5 to an amazing 0.96 after all the hormone jabs, pills and radiotherapy for the Prostate Cancer and my man has returned! haha! He has his shunt checked periodically and scans re the Brain tumor and they were very pleased and do not need to see him until Oct. He ddn't think he would walk again let alone get back on the dance floor but he has and does and it is wonderful, he is happy and i am so grateful to the marvellous team that treated him.

Astoriasis lovely to hear that you are getting along so well and that you finished your book in time for Christmas...what a super gift for your family and now you are doing a sequel? do you remember i asked if you were selling copies and where i could get one? well if it is possible i would love to buy one if that is ok? Looking forward to reading it very much. Did you do your own art work inside it at all?

Hi Wye...so good to hear from our rock chick again.....i have sent you a reply which you  will get on messages....and will hear through your email. i look forward to catching up with you and hearing all your news.

I think you are amazing J...such a positive lady and another author in our midst....i will  check out your poetry on Amazon and look forward to reading it. I admire the way you travel and don't allow the old Parky to spoil things for you.....keep going matey....you are doing great.

Well i have had 2 days now spreading my usual doses of meds from 4x a day to 6, which i really feel is keeping me from those terrible wearings off being as bad as they were anyway. So fingers crossed it lasts for a while at least. My nurse now has suggested to the consultant that she refer me to the Neuro hospital for a PD monitor to be fitted for a week and that will record my ups and downs and hopefully give them more idea what meds might help. Meanwhile we keep dancing and as my old Dad used to say "Dum Spiro Spero" ......."While i breathe i hope" haha!

Bestest wishes to you all......keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep smiling big grin

love Dolly x

I have just ordered your book from Amazon J and will look forward to relaxing whilst reading your poems. lol

Dollymaz, thank you for your interest.  I really do appreciate it, and I hope you find something in my little book to make it worth your while.

You do such a fine thing for all of us by keeping track of so many forum members and what's going on in their lives.  You are the amazing one!  I cannot take much credit for travelling and continuing other activities in spite of PD, because I have been fortunate and still have mild symptoms.  I don't know how or why, but my case just doesn't seem to advance noticeably.  How I wish I knew why!  I'd like nothing better than to share the secret with everyone.  I exercise, but many forum members exercise more.  I'm taking the same meds as everyone else, except that my dosage of pramipexole is high (6.0 mg./day).  So I'm at a loss.

Keep up the good work!  Your posts are always fun to read.

J

That's amazing news about your OH Dolly, he seems to be so resilient and brave, I wish him all the best. I also hope you come to a satisfactory conclusion with your meds then you should both be hunky dory!

Going to look for your book on amazon J, it sounds very interesting, I love to read all of the 'poems' posted on the 'creative corner', good luck with both your books.

Take care - Sheffy x

Today it's very cold and snowy,5 f for a high along with stiff winds and lake squalls.Went visiting yesterday,so important to visit others less formulate than our selves. One neighbor is in home respite for cancer.Ohters at the home I go to will never go home and many get few visitors. They rely on others at the home. Some do well if they get involved while others isolate and decline much faster.

Those with PD need a special care more so than many others .Strict med timing along with a refined diet and plenty of therapy and water exercises.I think a whirlpool would do wonders for a bed ridden PWP.The place i go to has a very kind staff and really tries but is limited with few top class doctors and special care.My conflict is not to be negative but to try and improve what is needed.

This year im setting aside a 2 days a week to do just that maybe more if I could get others to join and share driving.

And of course Im looking forward to fishing and spending time with family

Hi Dolly Maz and everyone

Many thanks for the interest in my book.  I would have loved to have sent you a copy but it was a bit of a disaster.  I paid privately to have it published for the family.  Handed my memory stick over to the printer only to get a call from them the following day.  The memory stick had been faulty, the gremlins were at work.  Pages were missing, paragraphs out of sequence etc.  I had to pay for them to be run off again and it cost a small fortune.  The books ended up costing me £30 each!  I was gob smacked but the family were delighted.  I could never have expected you to pay that for a paper back book.  At the moment I am extending the length of the book after the feed back the family gave me - so am still in an optimistic frame of mind.  I met a professional author whilst on a cruise and ironically she recommended trying amazon too - can I pick your brains J of how you did it?  I did design the front cover but didnt do any further illustrations.  The family appeared to have enjoyed it and didnt seem to mind what I wrote about them

I am so pleased that you and hubby have done so well.  I think you must be very fortunate to have one another.

I was pleased to hear about your success with Amazon - you must be very proud of yourself.

Take care everyone

Thinking of you

Astoriasis

Hello, Astoriasis --

I published my book via CreateSpace, which is owned by Amazon now.  You can go directly to createspace.com and begin your work.  Their phone help service is excellent.  I had ultra-ignorant questions to ask, and no one even laughed!

Good luck with it.

J

Hi J

Many thanks for that I will let you know how things go.  I will not be around for a few weeks so dont think i have forgotten.

Hope all is well with you.  Last time you mentioned Parkinsons you said that you didnot have much in the way of symptoms.  I have been diagnosed for coming up to three years, now on medication which is working very well and wondered if your history is similar.  I think that sometimes if we think about the future it could be scary.

So, i stay happy and dont think too much about it

Thanks again

Astoriasis

Hello Asoriasis ... the artwork looks brillient..how about a serene ,proud phoenix coming out of the ashes after being dx with pd .    smudger.s

im sooo sorry...i meant astoriasis..    smudger.s

Hi mateys...what fab weather today....what a difference it makes to the way we feel don't you find? Spring is just around the corner and i for one can't wait. This morning i went to my usual Line dance class with Mr D, there are approx 50 of us, average age 75....i am the baby at almost 63 but certainly not the fittest....we have several around 90 who travel  abroad, look after themselves and amazingly  can touch their toes !!!!!and thankfully for them keep excellent health. Age is just a number that is for sure and if you are fortunate enough to keep well it can make such a difference. Despite all the c*** we PWP go through, and some days are a challenge, it is still better than the alternative!!! Now i take a leaf out of my incredible Husbands book ( who survived Cancer and a massive Brain tumor and Hydrocephallus) less than 18 months ago.....he is my inspiration, and every day he appreciates life and enjoys and takes notice of everything......he takes nothing for granted and it is a wonderful attitude to have.....isn't it a shame that it takes devastating news to make us sit up and realise how lucky we are?

Keeeeeeeeeeep smiling

luv Dolly xx

You are so right, Dolly!  I now appreciate every day and every ability PD has left me.  Travel is a luxury for which I am deeply grateful; in not too many years I expect to find it too much labour to bother with.  Playing the piano gives me great joy, for I know my coordination will not allow it forever.  And so it goes for pwp, especially those of us who have to give shockingly high numbers when asked our age!  I feel fortunate to be doing as well as I am at age 70.

Keep writing!  So many of us enjoy your cheerful messages.

J

My Husband has just seen your pic and said " is that lady really 70"?  You certainly are looking good J and whether it is travelling, playing the piano, or a very good moisturising cream !! I want some of it !!! Seriously i do believe it is down to attitude......keeping as positive as possible, taking an interest in others and just having as much fun as possible......so keep up the good work, and by the way we are enjoying your poems so much.  That is a talent that passed me by unfortunately but it doesn't stop me from appreciating a special ability.

Best Wishes

Dolly x

Hj Dolly - I agree with J, you are an inspiration with your cheery massages after all you have been through with one thing and another along with coping with parkinsons yourself. I also wish I could write poetry but that passed me by as well, I love to read the ones that are posted.

Just an update on the forthcoming new arrival - still no show after 9 days over due date.....!!! Watch this space...........

Keeeeeep smiling, stay happy...........by way I am 63 years young same as yourself (it was a good year!)

Thank you, Dolly.  I was 69 when the photo was taken by a fellow traveller when we were in Oxford. It is a very flattering photo, which of course is why I picked it to use online.  :)  If I had used a selfie taken with my phone, you'd be saying, "Oh, that poor woman -- she looks 89 instead of 69!"

I'm glad you're enjoying the poems.  If you want more info on what I intended in some of them, the accompanying guide should be on Amazon soon.  I still have to add a couple of pages in the editing process.  With my usual great computer skills, that will involve a few calls to the "help" line, I'm sure.  I'm going to price it very low, because it's not long.  But I think Amazon must charge more overseas than at home,  The poetry book was only $6.50 here, which should be about £4 or less, right?

Sheila, you are certainly being kept waiting by that baby!  But better a little late than too early.  My daughter-in-law delivered both her children five weeks ahead of schedule and had to spend weeks with them in the NICU.  Very scary!  See you in the word games . . .

J

Thanks J, tx her this morning to ask if she was still hanging about, I jokingly said "yawn! yawn! this is getting boring, have you got any castor oil you can take" bet you can guess what her reply was! Can't believe that about both your grandchildren when they were born, I bet they were tiny little darlings!
