Hip replacement?

I have just read in an online article referenced to joint replacement with PD. It is referred to the replacement of joints not recommended for persons with PD? As anyone coma cross this before. I had both knees replaced 15 years ago with no problems but am in urgent need of hip replacement due to pain and discomfort in walking.
Any information would be appreciated
Thanks Davesan.

Hello, my husband who was diagnosed with PD 7 years ago underwent a total knee replacement last November. He was in agony for over two years prior to the surgery. He’s had his year check up and has done remarkably well in that respect. Did you have PD when your knees were operated on? I’m sure the surgeon will discuss it thoroughly with you before a decision is reached. Good luck.

Hi @Davesan,

I can understand that this may be concerning for you. I’m hopeful that you’ll receive a lot of helpful advice from the forum community, like @Jean1, as there are many who have undergone joint replacement surgeries while affected by Parkinson’s, and hearing of their experiences would certainly be insightful.

We do have a helpline service where you can speak to a Parkinson’s specialist. They would be more than happy to answer any queries or concerns that you may have regarding getting your hip replaced. You can reach them at 0808 800 0303.

I do hope you find the information above useful.

Best wishes,

Hi Jay

Thanks for the helpline phone number I will use it but am getting good information from the forum which is very useful getting information from others who are going through the same issues.
I am trying to contact the neurologist at the hospital as I am also at the moment going through an attack of sciatica in my lower back right leg and knees. It renders me unable to walk with out sticks and extra medication for the pain. I’m going to ask the neurologist if the tablets I’m on may be a factor in this ? Sleep is a big issue but as I have said before I don’t work so can catch up with sleep throughout the day.

Thanks again Davesan
