House insurance POLICY

Many sufferers from Parkinson’s disease require visits from carers on a regular daily basis. Most of these carers will have access to the house via key safes. My question is- does the presence of these carers from private companies or councils pose an additional security risk from theft or damage and should the house occupant declare this potential risk to their house insurance company to form part of their House content insurance policy. Acknowledging that this may well result in an increase the house contents premium! Still better to be safe than sorry perhaps? All comments welcome especially from those with experience of changes to their policy on such declaration

That’s a really valid concern, and honestly, insurance policies can be quite tricky to fully understand especially when there are existing health conditions involved. It’s always a good idea to go through the terms carefully and, if possible, speak directly with the insurer to clarify what’s actually covered and whether anything might affect future claims. In situations like this, hearing from others with similar experiences can really help. I came across another discussion that touches on related health and insurance challenges, which you might find useful to read through as well: https://forum.parkinsons.org.uk/t/combination-parkinson-and-sjogrens-disease/rental management

In my experience, it’s always worth checking directly with your insurer rather than making assumptions. Many people receive care visits and use key safes without any impact on their policy, but insurers can have different requirements. A quick call could give you peace of mind and ensure you’re fully covered if anything unexpected happens. Better to ask now than face problems with a claim later.
