How Do We Stay Active and Motivated While Living with Parkinson’s?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a discussion about staying active and maintaining motivation while dealing with Parkinson’s disease. I’ve read that regular movement, exercise, and having a daily routine can make a big difference, but I imagine it can still be challenging on difficult days.

For those living with Parkinson’s or caring for someone who is, what types of activities or habits have helped the most? Whether it’s walking, stretching, cycling, support groups, hobbies, or mental exercises, I’d love to hear what has worked for you.

I’m also curious about:

  • Ways to stay positive and motivated

  • Helpful exercise routines

  • Managing fatigue and stiffness

  • Building healthy daily habits

  • Support from family or communities

I think shared experiences and small practical tips can really help others who may be going through similar situations. Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

I have been reading that what really helps to slow the disease is actually quite extreme exercise- aerobic 2.5 hours raising heart rate to max, 1.5 strength training to prevent muscles wasting and balance and co-ordination. It all makes sense to me but trying to find suitable classes ( like dance/climbing wall) is tricky is there anything work of PD trained personal trainers like in the US? I find it so frustrating that exercise on prescription is available for mental health but not PD despite it being evidence based!!
