How I found I had parkinsons!

I just thought I would share how I first discovered I had parkinsons. I was waiting in the reception of my mates garage for my car to be serviced (mates rates of course)and also in there was a retired doctor and I just happened to mention my muscle stiffness. He said he noticed my arms don’t move when I walk.I normality have my hands in my pockets so if I fall over my nose takes the impact and not my hands!

Behind me was a big white board and next question to me was “have you got a felt tip” to which I replied “no it’s just the way I’m standing “ he said “no a felt tip pen to write on the board behind you…….he told me to write my name and address on it.I did that and he said “notice how your writing started big and then went small”.I said well it’s such a boring address l lost the will to live halfway through!

But anyway went to my local doctor and yes it was parkinsons and I have a wonderful parkinsons nurse who to my delight has a great sense of humour….which is vital if unfortunately she has patients like me :frowning:

What a story! It sounds like humour has helped you face things head-on, and it’s lovely to hear you have such a great Parkinson’s nurse. Thank you for sharing. Stories like this really make people smile. :blue_heart:

Parkinson’s UK Moderation Team

Hi Rhea, thank you for your kind words  I try to look at the positive angle….at the hospital a nurse asked if I could open a top window so I jumped up and opened it and asked if it was part of my mobility test…she looked at me smiled and said “no,I am just not tall enough to reach it myself :frowning:

The consultant’s parting comment was “you won’t die of parkinsons but you will die with it” so with that thought in mind I left the hospital and nearly got run over by an ambulance while crossing the road!

Morning welcome to the group. Well I think all these Consultants of our’s must come from the same mould? In 2010 I went to the hospital to see the consultant. he said ““Walk to that door and back again “ I will tell yoiu now what you have got you won’t die Afrom??? you have Parkinson’s, go to the desk and make another appointment and would you close the door on your way out please?? Ambulance that you nearly got run over by, if you had been run over don’t for get to dail 999 for an ambulance mind you it could be 3/4 hours for it’s gets to you,
