I saw my Parkinson nurse two days ago and she told me to stop using ibuprofen. She said Parkison patients should only use paracetamol for
headaches etc… yet I cannot see anything online that confirms this?
Hello Teapotspout … I used to take Ibuprofen for back pain [It was brilliant]. But as soon as I turned 70 I was told not to take it. What is your age?
If you’re over 65 , ibuprofen can make you more likely to get stomach ulcers. Your doctor will prescribe you a medicine to protect your stomach if you’re taking ibuprofen for a long-term condition. To make sure ibuprofen applied to the skin is safe for you, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have: kidney problems.

I take Ibuprofen and/or paracetamol for back and hip pain. A pharmacist told me that because I take lansoprazole its ok to take ibuprofen but stick to paracetamol most of the time
I am 72 but she did not mention my age at all. She said Parkinsons patients should take paracetamol and not ibuprofen as a fact -covering all Parkinson patients. I used to have sciatica and had a lot of ibuprofen, I will ask my gp about this.
The NHS has some silly rules. They will not prescribe me sleeping pills for example.
My [senior] GP. was very clear that now I am 70 it is not advisable to take Ibuprofen
& he would not prescribe it. I could still buy it over the counter though. It is nothing to do with Parkinson’s.
Best wishes

Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is generally considered safer for Parkinson’s patients because it has fewer risks in terms of gastrointestinal irritation and other side effects… especially with frequent use. But indeed, it’s hard to find any study about it online
