Introduction

Hello, my name is Yvette, I live in Cheshire with 2 teens, 2 large dogs and a large cat! I’ve had a tremor in left hand for a few months, I self diagnosed a trapped nerve after breast cancer surgery a few years back. But my oncosurgeon pushed me toward a neurologist. He says he’s 85% certain it’s PD. MRI and Dat being booked. To be honest I’m kind of reeling and feeling very sorry for myself! I guess that’s ‘normal’ at this stage… I wanted to pop on and say hello, I’m 57 and being a mardy… Sorry xx

Good afternoon Yjj … Sorry to hear about your likely PD diagnosis. I am 70 & was diagnosed with Atypical Parkinson’s following a positive datscan & normal brain mri scan [brain mri scans are done to rule out other more worrying conditions].

No matter whether your datscan is positive or negative you will be put on one of the Parkinson’s dopamine replacement medications to see if that helps you,

This is what they do. If your symptoms improve then you have Parkinson’s if they don’t you will be put on another medication.

I was diagnosed in June 2023 I was worried at the time but now I’m a lot more relaxed about having this condition. I’ve probably had PD for 5+ years.

Any questions do ask.
Best wishes
Steve2

Hi Yvette, I’m David and just been diagnosed with very early PD on Tuesday, kind of shocked but after a consultation with a neurologist i am kind of relieved that I know what’s wrong now. I don’t have any drugs yet as he says at this stage they wouldn’t be of any use , but that i will certainly need them in the future. Apart from a tremor in my left hand i am ok, i have anxiety attacks, insomnia, loss of smell and constipation but I’m assured that they are all related to the decease, this is my 1st posting and it has been helpful reading other people’s stories, i wish you good luck with your treatment.

Hi Steve2
Thank you for replying, I appreciate it as well as your honesty and I’m also sorry you have the same. Im still shocked, I seem to get nasty diseases at Christmas time… This is the third one, you couldn’t make it up. I have a dat scan booked in for a weeks time. I’m not v good at waiting but I have all the symptoms so I’m thinking I need to crack on with it. I’m super anxious and a little angry but I’m hoping that similar to the big C ( a few xmases ago) that it can be managed and you can live reasonably with it. I guess acceptance comes and then you put your big girl pants on… Well you know what I mean I hope!! ty so much for replying and being positive and honest

Hi Dave… Well I think we may be twinnies…unfortunately. Sorry for late reply but I’ve been being miserable and woe is me and v sorry you are in the same position. I had my 85% positive neuro consultation on weds… Just a day after you. It’s a shocker is it not? I have a dat scan booked for a week Tuesday. My tremor is in left thumb and occasionally a jangly foot. I stupidly thought this was a trapped nerve from surgery… Idiot!! Apparently my left arm doesn’t swing properly when I walk either, who knew. My chap said same about drugs at mo and best to leave it till the tremor is disruptive. He also said exercise is key so I’m having a boxing trial on weds for PD people., keep failing at pragmatics but I’m sure it will come! It would be great to keep in touch on this journey as we’ve landed here at same time. Keep chin up and talk soon I hope, yvette
