When someone from your care team leaves a message with details of your medication {for example} on your answerphone or on voicemail, is it illegal to make a transcript of this?
Regrettably there has been much miscommunication, incorrect information and contradictory information provided to me that my head is spinning, so I have resorted to keeping a written transcript of these messages as evidence that the mistakes are being made by the health care professionals and not by me.
Hi, @Artgeek.
I’m really sorry to hear about the challenges you’re facing with communication from your care team.
In the UK, it’s generally legal for individuals to record conversations they are part of for personal use without needing consent from the other party. This includes recording voicemail messages left by healthcare professionals. Transcribing these recordings into written form is also permissible for personal use. However, if you plan to share these transcripts with others, such as healthcare providers or legal representatives, it’s important to consider data protection laws. Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), any personal data shared must be handled responsibly.
It might be helpful to consult with a legal professional for guidance. They can provide support and ensure you’re taking the appropriate steps to protect your rights and those of your care team.
We hope this information helps.
