Living with Husband with Parkinsons

Hello, My husband was diagnosed with Parkinsons in April this year, really struggling with keeping his spirits up & to keep positive. He’s on medication, which has helped but we are waiting for an appointment with the Parkinson nurses which is not until August to discuss meds etc. 3 months away. We are in limbo at the moment, as we are not seeing the Consultant again till January. Feeling a bit lost.

Hello Gill … Sorry to hear your husband has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Delighted to hear his medication is helping, that is a positive.

Most of us here have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, it is something we all get used to in time. Of course it is a big shock to start with.

What I suggest is that you give the Parkinson’s nurses a ring here on Monday & have a chat with them. I have done so a number of times & have been treated very kindly.
Number is … Helpline 0808 800 0303. It is a free service & they really know what they are talking about.

Why not make a list of your husbands & your questions.

Best wishes

Hi gill
I was in a similar condition when I was diagnosed with PD. The stress caused my symptoms to increase dramatically.
I couldn’t walk very well ànd had trouble keeping up with 4year old grandchildren.
Then I discovered some alternative therapies on YouTube that I used and they helped me . I am walking 3miles a day and my posture and gait are good. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago.

Have a look at photobiomoduation aka red light therapy this improved my walking.

Have a look at the keto diet for PD , the trial data was impressive with improvements of nearly 50% over six weeks I think.

The intermittent fasting is a powerful intervention which helps the body get rid of toxins.

Another therapy that helps is exercise I am 80 years old and walk and do small weights due to back problems and I use a stretching routine every morning and b4 bed that is a tremendous help.

There are new drug therapies being developed all the time along with brain stimulation theories.

Change the focus to research and see if any therapy you think may help.
There are people on here who have had PD for years and still doing well,

Best of luck
