Loss of balance

Diagnosed 3 months ago. Now taking Madopar twice daily. Balance was a little shaky before but has suddenly become much worse - bouncing off walls and doors, etc. Is this a common thing and can I do anything about it?

Hi Bill, welcome to the Forum and thank you for your first post! We hope you find the community helpful and get some answers to help you.

We’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing trouble with your balance, especially after starting Madopar. We’d recommend speaking to your GP or Parkinson’s nurse about this as they will be able to advise on methods to help you, and may also be able to adjust your dosage which may help.

Alternatively, you can call our free helpline on 0808 800 0303. It’s free and confidential and our specialists will be able to signpost you to support that’s right for you.

We hope this helps. Please do let us know if there’s anything we can do.

Take care,

Hello Bill … I am 71 & have balance issues sometimes. I was diagnosed 2 years ago.
You might try different medication. Certainly do talk to your medical team.
I take Co-careldopa. I was on Madopar but stopped as it had side effects and was not working.

Best wishes

Thanks Steve. I would love to talk to my medical team if only I could reach them. I’ll keep trying.

Hello Bill … What my Parkinson’s nurse advised me to do, when I mentioned adverse symptoms, was to stop taking the Madopar, which I did.

Perhaps email or phone his / her secretary and tell them your wishes.

Finding successful Parkinson’s medication is 100% about trial and error. You try something if it works great, if it does not work or you get bad side effects you stop taking it.

Hi Bill

I can have balance issues when I haven’t had enough sleep.

The only thing that helps (for me) is to try to get a bit more sleep.
