Is it normal that you can be on just one medication on diagnosis? So far my husband has been in Ropinirole, tried this for a month had no effect at all. Now on patches and still no effect at all with calming his tremor down of anything medication makes the tremor worse. He is being so patient and knows its all trial and error until he finds a drug that works. I know I am no expert by all means but is one drug enough to control his symptoms? Just curious really. Also can Parkinson nurses prescribe medication?
Wish I knew the answer but I am newly diagnosed and have only been prescribed one medication. It was 2 times per day but in the last 2 weeks didn’t help so Consultant upped it to 4 times per day, which is helping. I guess its finding the right balance for him. Lots of luck
Hi lizzyg i have been on sinemet for over 2 yrs i have a tremor but sinemet doesn’t work with tremor but may be helping other silent symptoms i was on 4 tablets a day stopped taking at bedtime due to horrible dreams now reduced to 2 tablets a day a tremor is the hardest symptom to stop your not on your own keep your chin up
Thanks for your reply. I think I’m just being impatient. My husband is amazing how well he is coping with his diagnosis. I think for me I just feel sad when I see how much he is shaking. However other days I don’t even think about it.
Onwards and upwards.
Hi Calv, it is constant there all the time resting, walking, calms down a little when doing something. To be honest it’s worst since starting medication.
People can respond differently to medications so it’s a bit of trial and error at the start and best to try one drug at a time so you know whether or not it is having an effect.
Regarding the PD nurse, in the past mine has changed my regimen and updated my prescription.
Best of luck - hope you find something that works soon.

Hi everyone I have now had PD for 12 years and i was started on 2mg of Ropinirole a day each time (every 6 moths ) i saw my nurse she changed it added or more added othrer dugs. These drugs work with each other and your nurse will know which drug goes together, If you go to Parkinsons UK they have produced a book on all the drugs that are for PD makes very interesting reading.
While this is not medication I have found that using a garden recliner relieves a lot of bodily muscular tensions which markedly reduce tremors. If used in the fully reclined position you can adopt a body position which reduces stress which induces tremors. They are not expensive and may be worth a try? The effect is not instant obviously but after 15 to 20 minutes he may experience considerable relief-works for me! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Redwood-Leisure-Textilene-Reclining-Chair/dp/B00LX254UU
