Hi everybody i am on here without my husband knowing. He was diagnosed about 4 years ago and is scared stiff of taking meds (sinemet) because he read somewhere that the side effects are horrible so can anybody tell me how bad the side effects are and how long they last. He is 69 and had a bad experience when he was young he is now finding it hard to get out of chair and wishes he was dead. don’t know what to do i’m older than him and finding it difficult how do a find carers to help and do they cost a lot. Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give.x
I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and also was worried about side effects of medication. I initially tried patches but they didn’t agree with me so stopped after a few days. I then tried Sinemet -'no side effects and has really helped. I would probably have benefited from starting medication earlier. It’s important to remember that everyone reacts differently and also that you’re less likely to hear from people who have not experienced side effects. If your husband does try medication he will probably be started on a low dose which will be increased slowly. If he does experience side effects then he could stop and try something different in consultation with medical staff/PD nurse. It’s worth contacting your local council and asking for a carer’s assessment. You may also have a carers centre locally. Good luck.
Hello Oggy7
We’re very sorry to hear this, we are just going to send you a private message regarding this.
All the best,
Thoroughly concur with Folkmusician. I have been taking sinemet for over 7 months, and no side effects. Contact your PD nurse - they are a-ma-zing. They are so on the ball and will take note of your husband’s concerns. And there is more than just sinemet to try. Good luck
