hi all found this on my husbands nos can someone explain this we are a bit confused
Hello jdm … It does sound all gobbledegook doesn’t it.
I was diagnosed with Atypical Parkinson’s following an abnormal datscan, ie positive for Parkinson’s in June 2023.
I have just had a second opinion which looks like I actually have Vascular Parkinson’s and I am being taken off the Parkinson’s drugs I take as a trial. The side effects I am having from the Parkinson’s drugs are worse than Parkinson’s itself.
So if your husband has no symptoms then don’t take the drugs until he needs to. Just my opinion from personal experience.
Important to eat healthily, exercise and don’t drink too much or smoke at all.
Best wishes

Hi
Just to explain some of that.
Your husband appears to have high blood pressure when lying down and his blood pressure goes low when standing up. That may, or not, cause him actual physical problems such as falls.
The cerebellum is part of the brain that controls movement and your husband’s appears to be smaller than it should be.
Hypomimia is facial masking that PD patients can present with. It means that he is losing some facial expression ability.
Restless Leg Syndrome is a feeling of the need to keep moving the leg.
While your husband has “cured” his diabetes, if he is not able to exercise as much or changes his diet it may come back. I currently have a non-diabetic blood sugar result but I know that I still have underlying diabetes.
The abnormal DatScan result is a loss of neurons in part of the brain that is indicative of Parkinson’s Disease or Parkinsonism.
It may be best to go along with the consultant’s view of a six monthly review when your husband might be more aware of symptoms and be in a more receptive mood to consider treatment. I suspect the consultant’s final remarks are concerning your husband having atypical Parkinsonism rather than Parkinson’s Disease.
Feel free to shout if you need more help or just to talk. The PUK helpline may also be a good source of information for you.
Hope this all helps.
