Hi. My mum has recently been diagnosed with PD following a fall down stairs. We have not really been provided any information or advice regarding support going onwards. I haven’t contacted our GP yet as I’m not really sure what I should be requesting. The biggest issue with her is night time. I have to get up at least twice, if not three times, during the night to help her on to the commode. During the night, she is incapable of standing on her own. If you don’t hold her up, she just topples backwards. Is this normal for PD or does she have other issues that need investigating? She’s able to get around during the day using a walking frame with few problems. Thank you for any advice.

Good evening .. Sorry to hear your Mum has been diagnosed with this disease. I was diagnosed in June 2O23 and am 71 years old. I have had a lot of falls and balance issues. I do Indoor bowling and about 6 months ago I had 8 falls in one game. I overbalance backwards and forwards and freeze if I stand still.
I am on Sinemet & Rasagiline which does help quite a lot. I have been a lot better recently.
I to suffer with other conditions and it is a struggle to know what illness causes what symptom.
You do not say how old your Mum is. At a certain age ill health can hit you.
A good diet & exercise helps a lot. There is neurological physiotherapy available on the NHS at your local hospital. I had a 1 hour session, once a week for 6 weeks.
Best wishes
Steve2
