Newish diagnosis

Hi

I’m 62 years old and was diagnosed with Atypical Parkinson’s in May of this year, after suffering a succession of unexplained falls.
I am currently taking 2 x 12.5mg/50mg co-beneldopa three times a day but am finding that the balance issues are not responding as well as they were. I wondered if anyone has any similar experiences please?

Hi and welcome to our forum, @ANNIEW, You’ll find everyone here very supportive and friendly, and I’m sure they will be along to compare notes with you soon.

Have you had a chance to discuss this with your GP or Parkinson’s nurse yet? They are the best people to advise you and can review your medication and dosage to help you with any difficulty you may have. Over time things change and what worked well might need some adjustment.

You can read about levodopa drugs here.

Don’t forget that our helpline is a good source of support and advice when you need it. Just give them a ring on 0808 800 0303.

Best wishes,
Janice

Hi,

have you looked into Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, this is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s’ and balance issues are one of the main symptoms.

It is worth being ruled out by your consultant as it is a treatable condition.

Good luck

kikid is right. I have Parkinson’s and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and had a shunt inserted. I was told that it is more common than it seems because many go u diagnosed, many put their symptoms down to just getting old. There is quite a lot of similarity between the Parkinson’s and NPH symptoms and NPH can be misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s. I think it is certainly worth asking about this if only to discount it.
