Non / low protein diet

I think we’re all aware of the negative effects dietary protein can have on PD medication. I try to stay relatively protein free during the day and try to get protein in the evening.

I’ve tried the Mediterranean diet etc but I find it a bit bland and boring.

Has anyone found any decent recipe sites or diets that agree with our non / low protein needs?

Cheers

Hi @Dusty68, thanks for sharing what you’ve been trying. If you’re looking for ideas, we’ve got some information on food and Parkinson’s that might help you think about what fits your routine: Diet and food | Parkinson's UK

It covers lots of different info about food groups, medication and your diet, and how your diet can help manage your symptoms, which hopefully you might find useful. If you’re thinking about making bigger changes, it’s always worth checking in with your GP or Parkinson’s nurse so they can guide you. Good luck finding the diet that works for you :blue_heart:

Thanks @LauriePUKModTeam25. I have a printed copy of that.

What would be great; a page for PD friendly recipes where we could upload them for people to browse and discuss . Maybe even a website to give us all ideas. I’m kinda fed up with avocado and tomatoes :rofl::rofl:.

Cheers

Hi dusty ,
I eat a normal diet but usually only have two meals, except on the weekends. , Intermittent fasting!

I agree some recipes would be good. How much protein does my husband with PD have avoid? Am finding lunch the biggest challenge without the go to cheese sandwich. Trying plant -based cheese , yoghurt and milk but they are based on secondary protein which is also included in what to avoid.

Hi Sue. Ive very recently realised that if I eat a large (ish) meal during the day it affects levadopa uptake so now I have 2 or 3 light meals during the day eg toast or fruit or both for breakfast, sometimes a small bowl of porridge etc, lunch maybe a bowl of soup, small sandwich (cheese ), maybe a light snack later and then a normal evening dinner with LOTS OF MEAT, FISH ETC.! :joy:. I try to avoid protein during the day but sometimes I feel I need it. Also time it around medication times.

This has helped a lot in controlling symptoms and medication uptake.

But, still need ideas for recipes . Soup n porridge or toast can be boring. :joy:.

Cheers
