hello
I have had Parkinson now for 4 years I have all the normal symptoms you get with Parkinson I am 63 nearly 64
Does anybody suffer with lack of motivation and energy I work a 40 hours a week I get tired at work and lack motivation at times but when the weekend comes I have no motivation to do anything I will sit and watch tv I can’t seem to get myself motivated to do things I might do something like start to put shelf up and within 5 minutes my motion and energy to carry on has gone and i will sit down does anybody else get this darrell.
Good afternoon Darrell … I think you are doing brilliantly to hold down a 40 hour a week job. I’m not surprised you feel tired at the weekend.
I’m 70, diagnosed with Parkinson’s in June 2023. But had symptoms for at least 6 years. Don’t feel guilty about having a rest now & again. Certainly don’t feel guilty you aren’t getting jobs at home done.
I do very little other than exist day to day & I don’t feel at all guilty.
Best wishes

Hi, yes I’m very similar! I’m quite demotivated at work, and I’m even worse at home. I think it’s definitely a PD symptom for me, somewhere between apathy and depression.
I’m not sure what the answer is.
Sometimes I think I break a task up into smaller pieces in order to get through it. So getting started is the main achievement, and I try to put less pressure on myself to complete the task straightaway… That’s my excuse anyway!

Hi Darrell, thanks for reaching out on the forum. We can see some of our lovely members have already shared their own experiences with you.
We know more research needs to be done. There is a research study which is taking place to find out more information between Parkinson’s and motivation. You can find out more about this on our website here.
Apathy is being increasingly recognised in Parkinson’s, which is used to describe a lack of enthusiasm and emotion for everyday activities. You can find out more on our website here.
We hope this helps.
Best wishes
