Hi,
This post is regarding my Dad.
He has PD and his symptoms at the moment seem to be worsening quite rapidly. My mum who is caring for him more and more as the days go by is now really struggling to know what to do for him.
He isn’t able to walk due to something being wrong with his back, we are unaware if this is due to PD as nobody that sees him seems to know. He also has issues with hardening of the arteries in his left leg so this also hinders him from walking. Mentally my has said he has basically given up. She has spoke to GP who has said try and keep well and PD doctor who has said due to his hallucinations getting worse and leading into the day time now, he now needs to up his medication. Due to the current situations this has not happened.
Is there anybody that can help point us in the right direction with who can help with any of this?
Thank you
If what your dad needs is to up his medication, it is not acceptable that ‘due to the current situation this has not happened’. We are being told that there is real concern in the NHS that the number of people with non-Covid-19 symptoms coming forward for medical care has dropped so dramatically there is concern these people are not getting the care & help they need. You or you mum need to phone your GP and insist someone sorts out his medication asap - there really shouldn’t be a problem and it is line with national guidance to GPs and hospitals. It is only ‘routine’ operations and appointments that have been put on hold.
Best wishes & good luck.
Hi @Amym27,
Welcome to the forum, I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re having trying to get your Dad’s medication reviewed.
Can I suggest you give our helpline a call and ask to speak to one of the specialist Nurse Advisers? They may be able to provide advice on what might be best for your Dad and how to achieve this. They may also refer you to your Local Adviser who can support you in getting in touch with your Parkinson’s Disease Specialist Nurse (PDNS) or consultant.
The number for the helpline is 0808 800 0303 or email [email protected] Monday-Friday: 9am-7pm, Saturday: 10am-2pm
(Closed Sundays/bank holidays)
Hope this helps,
Tash

I presume you hyave tried talking to your Parkinsons nurse? We have found ours to be a real lifeline over the years.
Good morning Amy
Sorry to hear your dad has worsening problems.
You mention his back and I wondered if it was curving either right or left? Is he taking a PD drug Pramipexole also called Mirapexin? My Husband was prescribed this and one of the side effects is what’s known as “The Pisa Effect” where the patients spine starts to veer off and this in turn causes shocking pain meaning a loss in mobility. I only found out about this side effect a few months this ago as it had appeared on the drug information leaflet. We were never told this was a side effect or would never have agreed to Ian starting this drug.
I really hope you can get some answers and if he needs meds increased they should be not have to wait.
Really hope you can get the Ned changes your Dad needs.
Take care and stay safe
Heather
