Parkinsons and disabilities

Hello, I am here on behalf on my brother who was diagnosed with Parkinsons just under 1 year ago. He is 63 years old and deteriorated rapidly over the past 6 months. He has very little mobility in his legs and is becoming very forgetful!!! Is it normal for this to happen so quickly? The parkinsons nurse keeps advising us that sometimes you can have a temporary set back but it may return to normal. My brothers wife works full time and is struggling with homecare. Due to his age and his wife working full time I understand they are not eligible for carers or allowance. He is now very depressed, I live in France so its difficult. Where can I find help? Many thanks

Hi Uriel. Welcome to the forum. Very sorry to hear about your brother’s condition, it must be a very difficult time for all of you. We’ve got lots of information for Parkinson’s carers or family members on our website, which you can find here:

You can also find information about Parkinson’s symptoms here:

We’d also recommend you contact our Helpline, as they’ll be able to advise you further on this. You can reach them via email at [email protected], or call free on 0808 800 0303. Lines are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm, and on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

Hope this helps.
