Parkinsons and prostate cancer

Hi, my dad was diagnosed with parkinsons about 8 years ago. His symptoms were managed really well until about 3 years ago when he was also diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and started on hormone therapy to stop testosterone production. This has halted the spread of cancer, however the speed at which dads parkinsons symptoms have progressed has rapidly increased. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Or the opposite even (so we could rule out the hormone therapy being the cause of the sudden decline). Thanks in advance!

Hello Helen I had my prostate removed [aggressive prostate cancer] when I was 59.
I did want to go the radiotherapy and hormone treatment route but was advised against it as I was young. I am now 71 and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in June 2023, but have had the symptoms for years.

You don’t say how old your Dad is. We all get health challenges as we get older. I have quite a few other health challenges, just part of life I guess.

Best wishes

Hi Helen, have a look on X about treatment for advanced prostate cancer using ivermectin and fenbendazol.

YouTube may have some videos on this subject as well.

Hi Helen4, my husband was diagnosed with Parkinsons in February 2023 then advanced prostate cancer in June 2024. He is taking Co beneldopa 3 times a day. The last 6 months he has lost his appetite and we are fighting to keep the weight on. His energy level isnt bad in a morning but come lunchtime hes a sleep on the bed for an hour and half. Goes to bed between 7 & 8pm. The last couple of nights/early mornings he has been unsettled thinking be are not at home and wanting to get dressed at 3am in the morning.
I have been thinking the problem is his Parkinsons meds but after reading your text. Could it be the hormone therapy. This afternoon his psa blood test results came through and have jumped from 3.1 to 14 which is concerning. Can anyone give advice please.

Hello Rach … The PSA rapid rise sets of alarm bells I’m afraid. I HAD A SIMILAR RISE before I had to have my prostate removed 12 years ago. I saw the consultant on a Friday and had it removed three days later. It is not necessarily the PSA figure but how quickly it is rising. 3.1 is a low and normal figure. Anything much over 5 is a worry.

Have you been advised by the consultant as to the next step?

Best wishes

Hi Steve, no i only read the results this afternoon and doctor has notified the consultant. Doctor has said anything over 20 is a concern. I will contact the consultant tomorrow.

Hi Rach, thanks for responding to my post and I’m very sorry to hear your husband has had those diagnoses, much like my dad. I would definitely say to contact his prostate consultant regarding the PSA level and new symptoms, this is also my next port of call for my dad now as Parkinson’s consultant has not been able to help. Regarding your husband’s sleepiness and confusion, my dad is very similar - he would sleep all day and night if we didn’t wake him/keep him going with conversation and food! Increasingly he is confused on waking, again it is all very unclear whether it is a parkinson’s thing, or a cancer thing. Got my fingers crossed for you that you get some answers and some help. x
