I was diagnosed with Parkinson in January of this year 2022 and my consultant put me on tablets as i had low dopamine on the right side of my brain only (results of a DAT scan i had in October 2021)
My shakings of my legs was causing me problems when i was standing or walking on them as i sat down the shaking was worse, about 3 months ago my consultant told me i don’t have Parkinson but tremors as i got pains in my legs and knees she has referred me to a rheumatologist, It was diagnosed as stated in January then told to now told to stop taking my medication which why i was diagnosed and then told i did not have it it has confused me there is a lot more to this but has anyone else had the same problem, thanks
Your consultant referred you to a rheumatologist, likely to explore other possible causes for your symptoms. Rheumatologists specialize in conditions related to joints, muscles, and connective tissues. They can assess whether your symptoms are related to rheumatological issues. Official Site It’s essential to get an accurate diagnosis early, as treatment decisions can significantly impact long-term management. Consider seeking a second opinion from a neurologist or movement disorder specialist to clarify your diagnosis.
Hi essex888,
deborah621 is totally correct, it seems as if these guys are simply taking an educated guess.
You mention " consultant" I have no idea what their qualifications are but if he is not a neurologist, you are simply wasting your time.
Please go and get a second opinion, definitely by a neurologist.
and also keep in mind that just because someone is a neurologist does not mean they can correctly diagnose parkinson’s. ideally you should get a neurologist who actually specializes in parkinson’s to make the diagnosis. a neurologist whose speciality was multiple sclerosis misdiagnosed me in multiple wrong ways for multiple years before i eventually got the correct diagnosis of parkinson’s. sorry to be the bearer of not-so-great news, but you may have to manage your own case a bit more than you feel comfortable doing, because it’s random luck as to whether the medical people you see can figure out what you’ve got. parkinson’s in particular is notoriously often misdiagnosed and is also often a misdiagnosis for something else.
