Purchasing a Treadmill

There are two things prohibiting me going out on a regular basis {they are the inclement weather which is almost always very windy and wet, and the rudeness of people who will just as soon shove you off the pavement because they think you are drunk rather than side step to allow you some space}
Consequently, in order to try to help me lose weight and regain some sort of semblance of fitness levels, I want to by a treadmill or cross trainer that I can use in my house.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Suggestions? Ideas? Are there treadmills or cross trainers specifically for people with disabilities such as Parkinson’s or do we just use regular ones with a little more caution?

I had a knee injury/ osteo and found that a cross trainer I could exercise on without pounding along on a treadmill, the other advantage of a x trainer is you can exercise the arms at the same time, that’s what I would go for .

Hi, there are more and more Parkinson’s physios cropping up around the country, do you have one locally? It would be worth asking the helpline 0808 800 0303, they could give you the details of your nearest one. Parkinson’s UK are also handy for giving out grants for equipment for exercising, your local advisor can help with the paperwork once you have decided what you want, anything that gets and keeps you moving is a great idea, good luck!

Thanks Lar, yes I got on very well with the cross trainer at the gym, so I am considering that too.

Thanks Jo, we don’t have specialist Parkinson’s physios here {at the moment there is very little support of any kind}. There are “tea and chat” meetings about 20 miles away, but little else. I live in hope!
