Question about VAT and disability-related products/services

Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking into how VAT works for disabled people in the UK, especially when it comes to things like mobility aids or support services. I know that some items are VAT-free or have reduced VAT if you’re disabled, but I’m a bit confused about how it works when these are provided by charities like Parkinson’s UK or similar organisations.

Do charities usually pass on the VAT savings to the person using the service or buying the product? Or do they still have to deal with VAT in some way? I’ve also read that charities get certain VAT reliefs, but it’s hard to understand how it actually works in practice.

Hello Yogena
I just ask at point of sale if the purchase qualifies for VAT relief. Generally, the vendors are well informed and if VAT relief is available they simply give you a form to fill out. I just had an e form to fill out for a VAT exemption on a small purchase from Amazon. Only £5, but every penny counts and only took a minute to complete the declaration.
