Hello all; I have had Parkinson’s for nearly 20 years and DBS 5 years ago. However my Neurologist has suggested I take Quetiapine for my sleep problems;i.e.shouting out in my sleep, lashing out at my hubby and basically getting worse. I am worried in case I lash out and physically hurt him! I am a bit concerned about Quetiapine as a side effect is putting on weight and can makr you drowsy! I don’t want to be a zombie! Just asking if any of you take Quetiapine, and if so have you had any side effects, and are you glad you are on it or wish you weren’t? Thanks all.
Hello, yes I took Quetiapine for a while but now take Clonazepam & prescription Melatonin instead. The reason I took Quetiapine was that the medics will not prescribe sleeping pills & I was not getting sleep & I was having nightmares either due to taking Beta Blockers or Sinemet.
It was the head doctor at my practice & my Parkinson’s nurse that decided I could try a small dose. It didn’t really help my sleeping so I stopped it.
Yes, I think it made be drowsy, but so do the replacement drugs I take.
I can still wreck my bed when I sleep with REM & RLS. I am on a sleep clinic waiting list.
Best wishes

Thanks for this Steve, I reckon I should avoid Quetiapine and go for Clonazepam instead.
What is quetiapine commonly prescribed for?
QUETIAPINE (kwe TYE a peen) treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It works by balancing the levels of dopamine and serotonin in your brain, hormones that help regulate mood, behaviors, and thoughts. It belongs to a group of medications called antipsychotics.
Good morning … Quetiapine did help me I think. My dreams became less extreme & less real but I was always waking up Zonked. So off that & onto Clonazepam & prescription Melatonin. With this I do sleep and I still dream and often wreck the bed and wake up tired but get better during the day.
Best wishes

Exactly! I am not schizophrenic, and don’t want to end up being a zombie.
