Hi, my family chipped in and paid for a weeks holiday for me and my wife. She informed work and she gave the dates several weeks in advance, but this was bluntly refused. she works in a care home, and the date required was beginning of October, which is not typically busy for holiday requests, etc. We went on holiday anyway, and now she is facing a hearing in which she is accused of "potential" gross misconduct. Where do we stand? We feel it was not an unreasonable request, holiday time was owed, it wasn't a particular busy time and one new member of staff had been taken on. An earlier request to drop a shift, in order to provide more care for me had been refused, despite a member of staff wanting the extra hours.
I'd give the help line a call Paul they have advisors trained in employment & benefits
I do notice care homes are always advertising for staff.
