'Men Only'as in a certain publication?

Hi MachiKvellian

As for your notion of sweet innocent and demure ladies. Think again!

Tread carefully my man! Some of these 'gentle women folk' will give

any hardnosed docker a run for his money.

Btw....patronising talk or 'extracting the urine' doesnt become you

old boy! Leave that to the experts.

I respect your opinions on any subject!

Hi All,

Pokermid, I'm agreeing to what Tina said, which was "I do feel that advice handed out on this forum should be friendly, helpful and inviting so that PwP and carers feel they can return and ask anything they want." That's all.

Mauli
i agree that post to,maulihua.
Having my say,

I have been looking at this thread for a few days now, and still don’t understand it.

What has happened to free will, and freedom of choice.? Is the forum not like the rest of life? You hold conversations, are told stories and read books, you take out what you think is relevant to yourself, and leave the rest behind.

I recently emailed chewexpert who in return as requested sent me the list of his recommendation, all of which I have ordered on the net today. Now if on the do’s and don’ts it said I should bungee jump every Saturday, I would ignore that bit but still take my supplements.

(I know that was a stupid analogy, however I feel the need to exaggerate to prove the point)

I am assuming that we are all adults that use the forum, and as such should have the ability to pick out the good from the bad to meet our own needs.

Maybe a way to police the forum would be for admin to leave the post on, but highlight it saying that this particular post is not acceptable and the reasons why. That way the offended know that the powers that be, agree with them, and the ones that are not offended get the chance to read the post.

And now and again we get some rebel rattling cages, but as long as the rebels have a cause and the interest of there fellow sufferers at heart, does it really matter?.

Jaylew
Jaylew,

Many of us are able to differentiate the good, from the bad, from the indifferent, from the pie in the sky posts, but, perhaps others are not so circumspect and are very easily led to hopes of a 'cure' without much research on their part.
Some advice could be harmful or detrimenatary to their present drug regime if they do not take advice from other quarters.
Benji,
NONE of the substances recommended in the Parkinson's Improvement Programme are detrimental to a person's current drug regime. The only time it is important is when recovery is advancing and an existing drug regime becomes a mild overdose. At that stage the patient has a greater feeling of wellbeing and is able to approach medical staff for advice. It is quite wrong to blame a programme which can improve some people's lives for the fact that the drug regime is too rigid. PwP are quite able to adjust the amounts or timing of drugs they take knowing better than anyone what the effects (and side-effects) are.
I have read with interest this stream. On the surface, Chewexpert's PiP appears to be the answer to life, the universe and everything. However, when you look at it, it is essentially telling people to eat a balanced diet - no more, no less. However, the factor that is paramount here is that people should consult with a dietician before embarking on any such programe. He just happens to avoid mentioning this. A lot of us are already on dietary supplements and therefore, who knows what effects his regime will have. I won't even comment on his comments that people may be able to educe their medication levels. Nonsence and extremely dangerous.

On an allied point, if you look at the PDS accounts, there is no mention of any large donations by the drug companies. Furthermore if you look at the portfolio of research that is supported (Progress and Parkinson's News are a good read), there is no mention of drug companies. If I were a Trustee, I would consider suing the poeple who post such suggestions, without evidence, for libel.
Kevin, of course people are able to adjust their own medication levels if they wish. Doctors are not omnipotent gods nor are they dictators. Qualified advisers - yes, knowledgeable prescribers - yes but totally over-ruling patients' personal responsibility for their medication requirements? I don't think so. It has been shown already that some PwP need less meds if they are on a proper diet and if the gut is free of Helicobacter.
Chewexpert,

You have mafde a key point which reinforces what I said - "PwP need less meds if they are on a proper diet". Who is the person most likely to be able to advise on this? A dietician, of course, not an amateur (with no appropriate qualifications that we are aware of) who is peddling a diet with unknown consequences.

The H. pylori story is an irrelevance. It is not specific to Parkinson's, but is just as likely to upset the absorbtion of beta blockers for those with heart disease. There is no evidence that people with Parkinson's have a greater prevalence of H. pylori than those without. You give the impression that this is the holy grail - get rid of H. pylori and cure your Parkinson's. There have been a number of people posting whi have tested negative for the bacterium and appear to be devastated that they cannot be cured. Let's have a bit of realism here rather than a simngle person ranting about their own pet theories.

For your information, the PDS is actually studying this area (http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/research/research_news/hunting_for_gaps_in_research.aspx). The study planned will ensure that all of the available evidence is evaluated before any conclusions can be drawn.
Hi Kevin
I couldnt get you link to work..is it still available?
The link wouldn't work for me either Kevin but I would be very interested to read it.
Carrott,

If you go to Research -> research news -> story dated 20 Nov.

Just realised that it was the bracket at the end. Try:

Evening all

There seems to be somewhat of a witch hunt taking place here?

May I just remind members that Chewie has been in this forum from the very beginning (both of them) and has been the soul of integrity
throughout!! He has relentlessly conducted (with a passion) a campaign for people to request a H.Pylori test from their GP.
He has always acted as a gentleman and has tried to educate this forum in various fields connected with PD, but in laymans terms.
I have never seen him rebuke a question or a questioner. He has set up a programme that might help us. Might is a question that only time will answer.

He has spent an unbeliveable amount of his own time developing this programme and after all said and done, we are adults, we can pick and choose and we are already taking away control from our pill pushing playboy neurologists.

Witch finder General Kevin advocates seeing a Consultant or a PD nurse before anyone takes the plunge. Well as far as I am concerned, I have been taking the plunge with these incompetent, arrogant and insensitive so-called pillars of society for years.
All I ever get is a long wait, a little patronising and an increase in dosage. Oh, and an occasional bollockimg from a twit who cant even remember my name.

But they are busy men, I CAN HEAR IN THE BACKGROUND..........
Yes they are very busy men! Busy with big pharma....

Chewie is not offering drugs, unlike our Specialist, sitting high on his pedestal.
He's offering an alternative therapy to combat our symptoms.
Give him a chance and stop listening to fly by night wordsmiths like Kevin. Who is he? Where does he come from?

He has the temerity to accuse Chewexpert of ranting!!!!
Stick around buddy and feel the force!

Poker
Hi Tina

Is Chewies programme of diet and suppliments more expensive than a persons weekly intake of Vodka/redbull?

The former having a possible good outcome, unlike the latter which normally results in aggreivating symptoms!!

Poker
Hi Benji

Could you point out these others that are easily lead?

Are you giving your OH information that YOU deem fit?

Or has he got an open book to read like the rest of us?
