Restless legs

I was directed last September and am coping quite well. One thing is really giving me problems though, and thats restless legs. Its affecting my slleep and I have to get up most nights for about an hour until it relents. Ive tried staying in bed but to no avail. Over the past week I’ve tried magnesium butter but as of yet, itsnot working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Mick.

Hello Mick … I’m 71 & was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in June 2023. I’m on Sinemet 2 pills 3 times a day. I have sleep issues that are ither caused by Parkinson’s or the medication I take. I am currently taking Clonazepam & Melatonin to help me sleep better. It does seem to help quite a bit but I do feel a bit zonked during the early part of the next day.

Obviously talk to your medical team about this or you could phone the helpline here on 0808 800 0303 it’s free.

Best of luck.

Hi Mick.

I suffered from restless legs for quite a few months leading to very poor sleep. My PD medical team advised me to take 25/100mg Prolonged Release of Co-Careldopa (normal caredopa being my regular daytime meds), as my leg issue was possibly caused by ‘wear off’.
I’m glad to say this worked for me and I’m getting at least 6 or 7 hrs sleep per night.
Have a chat with your medical team and ask their advice about an overnight ‘slow release’ pill.
Cheers. D

PS, I wasted money on magnesium, it didn’t work.

hello Mick, I fully understand what you are going through. some people recommend drinking tonic water because it contains quinine. your doctor should be able to prescribe for you quinine sulphate tablets which i found very effective. they take time to work so be patient. Gabapentin is another option for you. Best of luck!

Hi Mick,
Restless painful legs are one of my symptoms and although I was really hesitant about taking Ropinirole, due to reading that someone became a compulsive gambler after taking it, it is working really well for me and I am getting a really good deal of sleep now.
I’m not getting any side effects and really glad that my Parkinson’s nurse was able to persuade me to take it.
It’s certainly worth a try and I hope you find something that works for you very soon

Hi Mike
I have had Parkinson’s for 6years I take madopar 4times a day 250 mg
I have suffered with restless leg syndrome for about the last 8 months I bought a thing called Thera pulse you strap it to your leg it vibrates and interrupts the signal
I find it very helpful
