A new symptom that R has now is that he is talking and moving in his sleep. Didn’t really think it would progress this quickly as only a year into diagnosis. He isn’t on Levodopa, only Rasagiline. Obviously, we will mention it as his next consultant appointment in February. Would Levodopa help or is there another medicine that would help his sleeping?
Thanks, Rach
Hello RachRob, what you’ve mentioned is a very common occurrence in PD. It often precedes the formal diagnosis years before. My husband, who was diagnosed 7 years ago, used to act out dreams, shout out and kick out in bed years before he was diagnosed. Indeed it can be one of the early indicators of the disease. He has been on Sinemet (levadopa) since first diagnosed and last few years also Ropinerole. He still acts out dreams and flails about, hence we no longer share a bed as I just can’t risk getting caught up in it all as have osteoporosis in my spine. I’m sure others will come on to give you some good advice and yes, you need to tell PD nurse or consultant if it’s only just started to happen to him. Good luck. Jean
Thanks Jean, I didn’t realise that it could pre-date diagnosis. In some ways, that makes me feel a little relieved. I appreciate your response. Thanks, Rach
HI jean I was disnosed in 2010 wiyh PD and I under stand about your hubby who is acting out his dreams. I have posted most of this before but if it helps then ii have done my little bit on our forum to help. Before 2010 my husband was having the same acting out his dreams. We had to do a 999 call one night as he jumped out of bed and ran imto the wall. He saw one GP who told us to have separted rooms then another GP who gave him a persciption for sleeping tabs plus even after changing GPs and seeing quite a few more not one had a answer, One day due to my PD I had to go to the hospital and see my doctor there. In the room with us was a young lady professor Jill Baker and somehow the converstaion got around talking about my hubby. Straight away the professor said oh!!! What your hubby as got is REM and she wrote out a px for clonazepam he has never looked back. Now don’t take my word for it there are quite afew drugs for this condition so have a word with your PD nurse /GP/hospital Doctor. the thing is that it can be a symton of PD and its me that has PD not my hubby.REM?? if you look on our web site it will tell you more.
