I’ve just been prescribed Ropinrole in addition to Sinemet and Rasagiline which I’m already taking. After reading up on possible side effects I’m very apprehensive about taking Ropinrole.
Any views from anyone who is taking it please?
I’ve been prescribed 2mg
Hi vb1,
I have been taking Ropinirole for about 18 months now along with Co Beneldopa and Rasagiline. I was started on 3 x 2mg all to be taken together, first thing on a morning.
I was very apprehensive too when I read some of the side effects. I am also aware there are some very sad tales regarding the addictive problems, of this type of medication. Many years ago I used to drink too much, far too much, but in more recent years, I have managed to control it.
I discussed this fear with my wife and Neurologist openly and honestly before agreeing to take the medication and I am pleased to report I can still stop at one pint or one glass of wine.
I am fortunate to have a supportive wife, and that helps me cope.
I am not advising you one way or the other but it does help if you have some support at home to keep an eye on you.
Good luck
Mal.
Hi,
I have been taking Ropinirole for a approx. 12 months. I take it in addition to Co-careldopa which I have been on for approx. 5 years. I was prescribed Ropinirole to control advanced tremors. Initially I commenced on 2 mg and have slowly increased to 8 mg. Whilst I was apprehensive at the beginning, I am pleased to confirm that I believe the ropinirole is now having some effect in controlling my tremors. The only adverse side effects that I can report is a disturbance in my sleep pattern. I previously slept very soundly but now wake at various times throughout the night. I have, in the past, expressed some doubts about the effectiveness of medication as I never felt the Co-careldopa gave me much if any relief. I was diagnosed when I was 77 and am now into my 80’s. With that in mind I do not need to worry unduly about any long term side effects. However, I think that this is an issue a younger person should consider when deliberating over the commencement of medication.
Hi vb1, I have been taking Ropinirole XL REQUIP (slow release) for nearly nine years now, am now on 18mg per day. I am also one of the lucky ones were I do not have any side effects from this medication. As others have said the side effects can be awful for some and can cause problems with married life if the side effects stages are not noticed early enough. It is not a suitable med for all but can be for others, as long as you are aware of these facts you can’t go wrong, but Ropinirole XL (slow release) made by REQUIP has certainly helped with my PD, all the best
