Rotigotine Neupro patches

Aww Margs1, I really sympathise with that - and I am sure that many others will know exactly what you are describing. It is such a cruel illness, taking away the things that others don’t even need to think about, like playing with grandchildren. On the positive side of this though, is that you are talking about the symptoms of Parkinson’s, and there are many medications that can help. It is a bit of a matter of ‘taste it and see’ for a while - but be assured that you will find something that works for you in the end. So it may be the patches (actually in your case, they will probably have a very good effect) or something else. But you WILL play with those grandchildren!!!

Thank you Tamsin for those words of hope and encouragement.

Well I have put my first patch on this morning, so hoping this is going to work for me.

Margs1
Well done, I hope it all goes well for you.

I am on 2 patches a day (total 12mg/24hr) and running out of places I can put the patches on by myself keeping within the parameter of not using the same piece of skin within the 14 day rule. No noticeable difference using 12mg from previous 8mg.

Good luck

Thank you Steppy.

Hi I’ve been on Neopro patches since the new year as an alternative to 10mg tablets which were making me feel sick. Movement was great for a while on 8mg but had ‘wearing off’ problems. I’m now on 12mg - two patches per day. Agree they are not easy to put on but find that holding the heat of your hand over them for 20 seconds usually works.

Hi Cathiesmall

Good tip re holding the patch for 20secs,

How are your Neupro 12mg patches made up? 2 x 6mg or 1 x 8 + 1 x 4mg as I am using. If the 6mg patch is smaller than the 8mg (certainly the 2 and 4mg are smaller than the 8mg) there will be less surface area making patch space easier to find. I am struggling to find patch space and to put it on unaided. It doesn’t help that my tremors increase when I carry out this operation!

Hi again - I use two 6mg patches and have developed a routine starting with the top of each leg, moving up to the hips, then abdomen (next one is difficult as I don’t know if you are female), tucked inside your bra, then shoulders and finally arms. Then back to the start.
I don’t know if it helps but I also open both patches before I start. Good luck - I hope they work well for you

That sounds a good idea.

Yesterday’s patch was just under my bra but came off and was stuck to my top. I was panicking because I thought it had fallen on the floor and my three grandchildren are under 3 and one crawling so was worried one of them would get hold of the patch. Think it was the hot weather though as the patches usually stick well.

Cathiesmall,

Thanks for the patch details. I am male! I was coping with the 8mg patch but my condition was deteriorating hence the increase to 10 then 12mg and 2 patches. No noticeable difference using the 12mg but its early days yet. I will request 6mg patches next prescription.

Well 17 days after starting my patches I am feeling worse. My arms and legs feel like lead much worse than before. I see my Consultant in October but if thiis gets any worse it will be back to my PD nurse.

Dont know if this a coincidence but I also feel very sorry for myself and feel like crying all the time, fortunately I have only given into this once.

Hi @Margs1,

So sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling down recently, you’ve definitely come to right place for support. I know you have an appointment due with your PD nurse in October, however, if you’d like to speak to one sooner, please give our helpline a call on 0808 800 0303 and one of our advisers can arrange for a PD nurse to contact you within 24 hours.

Please take care.

Best wishes,
Reah

Thank you Reah. I am off on a weeks holiday so I am hoping it will lift my spirits. It is good to know that there is always someone you can contact.

Hi Zo,
Thank you for your experience on patches. How did you manage 2 patches without breaking the 14 day rule as I find it difficult to find space for 2 patches? I have started to notice an improvement in my symptoms since starting 12mg dosage per day (2 x 6mg)

I was taking Ropinerole 8mg & 4mg each morning, but it was felt that they were wearing off before 24 hours were up. The Specialist suggested Neupro patches 8mg (gradual) which would last 24 hours. Eventually gave up & returned to previous medication due to nausea and generally feeling unwell. Agree with an earlier comment about experimentation!

Hi steppy
Its better now im down to one patch, more spaces. I am glad the patches are working for you now.

Hello all Rotigotine Neupro patch users My husband, who is currently on Madopar 100/25 4x per day plus 100/25 controlled release at night, was recommended to build up patch use to 6mg a day as well as the Madopar.

The only effect he notices is that he gets scary vertigo-like feelings and thinks he is going to faint. There is not pattern to them and they come on out of the blue. Does anyone else experience this with the patches.

Update
I increased my dosage to 12mg a day and all fine for a while then my left leg and foot swelled, a reaction to the increased dosage? I contacted my PD Nurse/Neurologist and was advised to reduce the dosage back to 8mg a day, and use a compression sock for my swollen leg/foot.

Hello Reah. My sister has today started using the patches. She’s immediately started on 16mg. She has been hardly able to open her eyes and has felt desperately weak and ill. I’m very nervous that she was told to start on such a large dose. I’m going to suggest that tomorrow she only puts one patch of 8mg on to lower her dose. What do you think?
