Scared

Hello my name is Adam I’m 36 years old soon to be 37 in a couple of weeks. Just over 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease but for the last six years that was when I first started experiencing the symptoms. It’s funny because I’ve lived with symptoms for a long time but as soon as I hear the name of the diagnosis it petrified me.

Hi Adam A very warm welcome to our Forum. I have had PD for quite a number of years, people seem to for get it is a slow / slow progesive illness. I have now reached the young age of 78 jan 25 so all i can say is Adam enjoy your, life, take each day as it comes. Do think though what you would live to achive bebefore PD takes over. When I found that I had PD my boys were long gone from living at home, so hubby said when we have some savings, but don’t you think we should sell up and travel? so we sold up, went round the world twice. Just us and the range rover, the best thing was we seemed free,. we are now in a small bungalow, owned by Anchor, which also has inderpendent living. Not every-ones cup of tea, but we have not got any regrets,

Hi Adam,
Sorry to hear your recent diagnosis and how you’re feeling.
I was diagnosed in November am 45 years old and felt very low after diagnosis too.
I have found meeting and talking to other people with PD definitely helps.
I’ve joined a local PD group who hold various events which helps and have found there is something on the Michael J Fox website where you can link up with others on line to talk through their experiences with PD.
There’s a YOPD call arranged on this website tomorrow evening too.

Hello Adam, sorry for your diagnosis, we all know how is hard to hear that. I still remember every word from first visit to my neurologist. I’m 46, diagnosed 7 years ago. If you want, join us to yopd zoom meeting, tomorow at 8:00. It’s good to meet other people with the same problem

Hi Adam

Sorry to hear about your young-onset PD.

PD is a strange illness that presents and progresses differently for all. I was diagnosed in 2008 at age 56 ( the same as my late Father). My PD has not advanced much since diagnosis and a lot of people are surprised to know I have PD. I started medication almost immediately on diagnosis (the lowest dose of Stalevo) and only had that upped a little recently.

I hope that your journey with Parkinson’s is a slow journey and that you are able to be active to remain active. I also hope that you have a good Movement Disorder Specialist and team to help you on that journey.

Regards

Doug

I was scared when I was diagnosed…
I found alternative therapies on YouTube.
These changed my focus to things that have helped pd patients.
I found photomodulation red light therapy interesting and purchased a helmet, worked for me. Then there was coconut oil in black coffee which provided fatty acids for the brain
Intermittent fasting for PD works well I believe.
Then if course exercise moderate in my case.
Change your focus and checkout YouTube for information. Calm yourself down and your symptoms will subside, being stressed makes od worse . Help yourself and see what
Works for you.

Hi Adam
I hope you are well all things considered.
More importantly, welcome to the forum.
Sir, I’m 55 and I was initially frightened about lots of stuff but you learn to deal with it at your own pace.
There is the joy of getting your medication right.
Exercise and diet is important. You’re a youngster so take it in your stride.
Remember there is lots of support out there.
Finest regards
Martyn
