I have just come back from a 5 day hospital admission. I collapsed owing to low blood pressure. Whilst I was in hospital they took some bloods which threw up a few wobblys. The worst of which was a vitamin D level of 14, which is severely low. I’m guessing that this has not helpef one bit with fatigue amongst other issues. I have a telephone appointment on Monday with a consultant from acute internal medicine. I will know more then, but wondering if anyone else has been through similar?
Hi, I have problems with vitamin D deficiency as well. Don’t know why but I have a number of injections of vitamin D throughout the year at my GP practice.
Vitamin D can be taken through dietary resources or more. commonly, it is formed by the body with the action of sunlight on the skin. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, then between April and September, 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight on the skin daily. produces sufficient vitamin D for the average person. However, from the end of September to March, the levels of sunlight are insufficient to help the body create vitamin D. so we have to take it either in dietary forms or supplements. The best dietary forms of Vitamin D are oily fish, such salmon and mackerel, liver, and egg yolk. Because Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and is stored in the liver. It is important not to overdose on it. Your appointment on Monday with the consultant should help you resolve the issues.
I think that may be the plan as I need a loading dose as the deficiency is so severe. I don’t overly understand why as I do get outside etc. We shall see on Monday.
I too was low on Vit D over the counter supplements were not adequate I have been on prescription Vitamin D.
Have a look at your diet Sammy. Eat foods high in Vitamin D.
Best wishes
