Shopping deliveries when you're bedbound?

Hello everyone

My aunt has had Parkinson’s for many years and is now bedbound, with carers visiting 4-5 times a day.

We help whenever we can, but she doesn’t have anyone who can do her weekly shopping, so I’m looking to arrange regular home deliveries for her.

The challenge is that she needs fresh items to be put away in her fridge. The carers can handle dry goods, but it’s difficult to guarantee they’ll be there at the exact time of the delivery, as both the shopping and care visits have flexible time slots (typically within a 30-minute to 1-hour window).

Does anyone know if any supermarkets offer a delivery service where groceries are taken directly to the kitchen and put into the fridge?

She’s unable to get out of bed or answer the door, so door-to-fridge assistance would be essential.

Any recommendations or advice would be hugely appreciated.

She lives in the Stechford area of Birmingham, and of course, security and safeguarding are top priorities, as she’s very vulnerable.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Good morning … I am 70 & live alone & have Parkinson’s. I cannot go out to buy groceries etc. I use Asda van delivery & find them very good & reliable. I shop & pay online. You pay for deliveries something like 75p a week, but only on Tue, Wed & Thu, other days more expensive. Orders have to be over £40 pounds. They offer to bring my groceries in to my flat, but I collect them at the door as I have white carpets.
They would certainly put the groceries in the fridge if I asked.
Give them a ring & ask.

Best wishes
Steve

This isn’t any good as I’ve contacted the supermarkets and they can only offer a one-hour window - which they said sometimes runs over. The carers may have left by the time the delivery arrives.

I can’t believe the big stores don’t offer help to the most vulnerable.

Because she’s completely bed-bound - she’s reliant on someone opening the front door.

I’ll keep trying to find somewhere that can help.

I don’t think Asda’s have ever been late in the 2 years I’ve used them.

Best of luck.

hello - might it be possible to make a private arrangement with the care agency to do the shop and put it away once a week? alternatively contact your local Voluntary Bureau who may be able to find a volunteer to do this for her.
