Shortage of Sinemet CR

My chemist has advised cannot get supply, and I read on line not making any more. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you take to help overnight instead? Thanks xx

From the outset of my PD I was prescribed with Sastravi. It is a medication like Sinemet but also contains entacapone to give it a longer time of action on the body. It may help you overnight.

I do take Sinemet CR at about 8pm (which lasts about 4 hours), but then afterwards also Clonazepam. By the middle of the night I am reliant on the Clonazepam. It’s mainly designed as an anti-anxiety drug, but also has fab muscle-relaxing qualities. So all muscle tension and dystonias are pretty minimal - you can feel it coming on like you feel the Sinemet (toes uncurl, hamstrings relax) - reduced enough to sleep anyhow.

Thank you, I have dystonia as my off symptom so your suggestion sounds good. X

When the Clonazepam starts to wear off, I sometimes microdose on Sinemet Plus (literally 10-20mg fractions of a pill*), and also down a generous glass of tonic water which has quinine in it (prevents cramps). The combination of all three sometimes buys me another 1-2hrs’ sleep. Weird science!

*provided that it doesn’t mean I exceed my daily dosage

My nearest chemist can not get hold of it either. The chemist that has a regular supply is too far away to walk to. So I have to rely on someone taking me or collecting it on my behalf. Or i can get it delivered . I have to fight apathy every and this key task is one that even I cannot fund a "reason " to put off.

Hey MaggieC - we recommend checking our webpage out for the latest medicines that are affected. We also have a section on the page on how to seek support should you need it.

All the best
