You should tell your Parkinson’s team if you are worried.

Steve2, Hope you dont mind me asking but what sort of severe sleep problems did you have and missing the evening dose does it effect your mobility? Many thanks.
Hello Rach … of course I don’t mind. I have seen 3 neurologists privately in the last
4 months. The first for neuropathy, the second for my sleep issues and the third to look at my Parkinson’s diagnosis.
I was diagnosed with Atypical Parkinson’s following what they said was an abnormal datscan in June 2023, I am 71.
The first neurologist said I did have neuropathy but he thought it “mild.”
The second neurologist said my sleep issues were almost certainly caused by the Sinemet I took for Parkinson’s.
The third neurologist is a well renowned Parkinson’s specialist. He thought my Parkinson’s symptoms were mild and he thought my datscan was normal. He sent the datscan off for an expert second opinion which came back with mild signs of Parkinson’s.
The third neurologist suggested I completely stop taking all my Parkinson’s medication for a period of 2 months which I did. I found my sleeping was better but my balance was quite a lot worse to the extent that I had to cancel 5 out of 12 booked indoor bowls matches with poor balance.
I do have Gait Freezing which he thinks is not Parkinson’s.
So we decided to only take the morning [2 pills] and afternoon [2 pills] doses of Sinemet and Rasagiline [1 pill] morning. So no evening dose of Sinemet.
My sleep issues were extreme nightmares, restless leg, insomnia and fatigue the following day. Now I no longer take the Sinemet in the evening I find I sometimes struggle to sleep, like last night where I woke at 2 am and that was it, no more sleep.
But the other issues are a lot better.
I have found I have not had to miss a single game of indoor bowls now I am back on my Parkinson’s medication.
My mobility is just as good with 2 doses of medication. Also if I am not playing Indoor Bowls I take no Parkinson’s medication at all.
Best wishes

Thank you Steve2 for explaining that so clearly for me. I have followed your posts for a long time and find you really go out of your way to help. So kind. Thank you once again.
Thanks Rach1 … most kind. I am actually interested in all these health issues we all get.
I think the treatment Parkinson’s sufferers get by the NHS is mostly [very] poor. To think that here in 2025 the only advice / treatment available to those with Parkinson’s is [neurologist saying] errrr I’ve got a couple of pills for you to try, might not do you any good, indeed might make you worse, but It’s all I’ve got. Worth giving it a try. Sorry. I’ve also booked you an appointment for 2 years time to see how you are doing.
Best wishes
Steve2
