Hi, can anyone give me an idea of what can happen in a speech and language session? R is struggling with clearing his throat and making his voice heard. He is still working and needs to talk to clients and in formal situations so is very aware of his voice. He has only told his boss and HR about his Parkinson’s and feels that people will start to realise that something is up with him. I think it is increasing his anxiety issues which then have an affect on his mood and heart concerns. Do we need to contact our Parkinson’s nurse about setting the wheels in motion? Many thanks
Not sure if the same for everyone but i think its the GP that refers.
Hey there,
I too have a similar issue with my speech, my PD Nurse referred me to a speech and language therapist, there maybe a bit of a wait. I am able to email my PD Nurse, who is very reactive in responding. Do you have that access?
I use an voice amplifier when I am on the phone at work, which is a lot of the time, also I am upfront about having a voice problem, you don’t have to say why or what, most people just accept it,. The amplifiers can be used for presentations too, have a look at the Parkinson’s shop on their website, or google them, if it is used mainly for work, then your employer, may pay for it under your reasonable adjustments process. I hope that helps.
