Have just installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking on my laptop.
Absolutely brilliant! It hardly ever gets it wrong. I am dictating this post using Dragon. It takes a bit of getting used to but I think it's going to fit the bill nicely. About three times faster than manual typing. Does anyone else use speech recognition software? Do you find useful or not?
I have used Dragon on and off for a few years. The latest version (V13) is particularly impressive and, as you say, it can achieve very high accuracy. It can be quicker than typing especially if you can master the art of dictating whole sentences at a time. I have also found it very beneficial to speak to other Dragons to share tips and techniques.
For some reason I seem to fall back to typing if I find my fingers to be responsive enough.

Hey @Christo - I know I’m replying to an old post here, but would love to hear if you’re still using Dragon? If so, have you tried Voice Access on Windows 11? I’m always curious to know people’s experience with these two technologies.
I work with a company that does accessibility and user testing with a Community of assistive technology users (Fable, or www.makeitfable.com). It’d be great to learn more about your experience since 2015.
I’ve been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for quite a while, and it’s become one of the most useful tools on my computer. Like you, I was impressed by how accurate it was once I completed the initial setup and used a good-quality microphone. After a little practice, dictating became much faster than typing.
I use Dragon for emails, documents, web browsing, and even controlling parts of Windows with voice commands. It has saved me a lot of time and reduced the strain on my hands, especially during long writing sessions. There are occasional mistakes, particularly with unusual names or technical terms, but adding those words to the vocabulary improves accuracy over time.
Overall, I definitely find speech recognition software worthwhile. The more you use Dragon, the more natural it becomes, and it’s a real productivity boost if you spend a lot of time writing.
