Hi in 2021 in the same month, i was diagnosed with both early onset PD and rectal cancer . I was treated for the cancer via radiotherapy, tablet chemotherapy and a long operation during 2022 and that resulted in a colostomy type stoma. At times I find this difficult to manage with my PD movement issues and Ive always wondered if my PD meds absorbtion is being effected by my colostomy as this does effect your digestinal tract and can effect med absorbtion. I’m now experiencing wearing off and I’m wondering if changing to easier absorbed meds like liquid or ones that melt on your tongue may lessen the wearing off. Is there someone in the PD community whose experienced this issue, how did you solve it ?.
Hi Neil,
Thanks for reaching out to the community. We hope that others will be able to share their experiences with you, but we wanted to hop on and let you know that we’re here for you if you need us.
Wearing off can be common if you’ve been taking a Parkinson’s drug that contains levodopa for some time. We have a little more information about this on our website here: Dyskinesia and wearing off | Parkinson's UK
Our advice would always be to speak to your GP, specialist or Parkinson’s nurse to assess the situation and put in place a treatment that’s right for you.
Our helpline is always available to you as well. Our trained advisors can put you in touch with a Parkinson’s nurse if you’d like further guidance or support. It’s free and totally confidential: 0808 800 0303.
Take care,
The Parkinson’s UK Moderation Team
