Does anyone know how to properly store drugs such as madopar and ompicapone in this heatwave? at the moment I have mine in a sealed box on the kitchen floor. should they be in the fridge?
Hi, Artgeek.
It’s best to store your Parkinson’s drugs somewhere cool and dry, such as a closed cupboard. Your medication will continue to work in hot weather and will be absorbed as normal. But remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and help you swallow your medication.
For more tips on staying cool during the summer and managing your medications in the heat, you can find helpful information here.

Thank you CandiceSAF25. The leaflets that accompany all meds are vague inasmuch as they say “do not store above 25*” but nothing about what to do when the ambient temperature is above that.
You’re absolutely right, Artgeek - many medication leaflets can be a bit vague on this issue. The general advice is to store them in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight, but if your home is particularly warm, it’s okay to keep them in a sealed box, as you mentioned, or even in a room that stays cooler, like a bathroom or a basement, if that’s an option.
If you’re still concerned, it’s always a good idea to check with your pharmacist or healthcare professional for more specific guidance. They may have advice tailored to your medication. In the meantime, keep staying hydrated, and I hope this heatwave passes soon!
Take care
