Hi There,
I’m new here.
My Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in June 2020, he has been managing quite well, but recently I’ve noticed he is struggling a bit & I worry constantly that he will have a fall or something will happen,
I live an hour an away, unfortunately there is no one else to help out.
My Dad is very proud & stubborn he won’t accept any help in the house, but I really feel a cleaner would help him.
He told his Parkinson’s nurse that he copes really well & uses he bath board etc but I know full well he doesn’t use the equipment.
I’m worrying constantly, trying to manage work as well.
I feel life is getting harder & I k ow that must sound selfish
Hello Looby74 … You sound like a very caring daughter / son, your Dad is very lucky to have you thinking of him. I am 70 & live alone in a one bed flat. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in June 2023.
I too manage quite well on my own, I had someone assess my needs & my flat was adapted with hand rails & higher chairs.
I like it that I can manage on my own. But I have had four falls in the last 3 months.
I do have a cleaner in once a month which helps me.
I am not quite sure what you are asking … clearly your dad likes his independence.
Maybe phone him regularly to see he is ok. You can get personal alarms for about £2 a week to go around his neck which might give you peace of mind.
Any questions do ask.
Best wishes

Hi,
Thank you for your advice. I think I’m realising that I’m probably worrying more then him at the mo
I will look into the alarms, thank you.
Sorry to to hear you have had some falls.
Take care
Maybe phone AgeUK the charity for advice / help.
Best wishes

rm Welcome To Our Forum.
I feel it for you as it ix very hard to have a personal life and look after your dad, been there!! done it!! only it was my mum. I have PD and now I do find it hard to do ect cleaning I have a hubby who just doe’s not like other folk in his house, but as the saying goe’s slowly slowly? so each time you see dad just mention it. Men are very stubbing they still like to think that they are king of the castle. Or you could ring up your local council and have her visit your dad with you there, Just say to dad , today my friend has come with me ect also like phone Parkinson’s UK they have always being very helpful to me. Do let know how you get on as all the feed back helps us all.
