Supporting children

Hi,

I'm really ater some advice or words of wisdom.  My hubby has PD and we also have 6 and 7 year old children.  Although he was dx 3 year's ago and the girls have grown up with the illness,  they don't seem to appreciate that he can't tolerate loud noises and fast movement.

I have read and reread the book aimed at children and spoke to them about it on many occasions to no avail. I wondered if anyone could share how the got their young children to understand.

Hi 10k,

Do you or your husband attend a local support group at all? If you do it might be worth raising these concerns there, maybe other parents have had similar experiences.

We also run a peer support service here, it puts you in touch with a trained volunteer who has a similar experience of Parkinson's to you and your family. I think this could potentially be a great way to connect with other parents in your situation. You can find out more on the peer support service page

I hope this helps,

Kat
