Hello
I have to Cathertise with an intermittent catheter around 7 to 8 times a day and Urology have offered me the option of a permanent Suprapubic Catheter.
Does anyone on this forum have one fitted, and would like to share their thoughts on this. I am not sure which option to go for long termly.

Hi Andy 77.
My name is Dave and i have a permanent catheter fitted 8. Months ago. I have had an inconsistent problems all my life. I always need to go the toilet and can’t hold it.
I was recently in hospital for my hip replacement and having been in hospital a number of times over the years I asked would it be possibles to leave the catheter in when I leave hospital.
The urologist had a look and chatted about long team catheters etc, best thing I’ve ever done. For the first time in over 50years I don’t have to worry not having to go to the bathroom 3 to 5 times a night.also when I’m outside up town etc, I don’t have to worry about toilets as they are disappearing or expensive when you need to go to public toilets. You can get a raydar but they are not aways clean. I have it changed every 12 weeks by a district nurse at a local clinic.
You need to think about it before you see the doctor and ask it is possible to have a permanent caterer. It wonderful to not always be wetting my self hope you get fixed up and be free to go enynwere you won’t
Good luck

A family member I care for has a suprapubic catheter. He doesn’t have PD and previously did intermittent self catheterisation but now lacks the manual dexterity to do this. He did have a urethral (Foley) catheter but this caused
tissue damage so he has had the suprapubic catheter for a year and it has been OK. As Dave suggests talk it through with your doctor to see if this is the best option for you and maybe also look at Suprapubic Catheter | Bladder & Bowel Community. Good luck!
