Taste and smell

Hi,
I’m having difficulties off and on with what i can best describe as having a yuchy smell in my nose that i can taste in my mouth.
I’m currently reducing ropinirole due to compulsive spending other than that nothing else is different. I’m 50, tremor dominant.
Can this possibly be Parkinson’s or medicine related. I’m currently struggling with this today, no mouth spray or perfumed infused sock is helping

Loss of sense of smell is often an early sign of possible PD. Being able to smell something bad is not something I have heard of as a PD symptom. Perhaps you need to have a chat with your neuro or PNS.

Regards

Doug

My husband has the same. He often smells rubber or burning, if he’s been on the tube for example he can smell ‘it’ for hours after. He had this before he was on medication, but oddly he lost his sense of smell years ago. Its very annoying to him.

I have experienced ‘phantom’ smells and tastes since my symptoms started back around 2005. For me personally I use raw honey which seems to have an odd effect on my sense of smell. I have no idea how or why but it definitely works for me. Raw honey from a farm shop, unprocessed, one teaspoon per day. What is there to lose apart from maybe a tenner.

I am very similar to your husband. I can often smell gear oil or axle grease even though I haven’t come into contact with it. This started for me back around 2005 even though my shakes didn’t start until 2015. I wasn’t even diagnosed until 2021. My first indication that something wasn’t quite right was when I could no longer smell garlic when it hit the frying pan. That is some smell to no longer be able to detect. These days I use raw honey to return a ‘sense’ of smell. It works for me.
