Hi all my husband has being refered for a total knee replacement ,but he suffers with dyskinesia ,will it cause an issue .
He will probably have a spinal anaesthetic.
Has any one else had any issues .
Hi jo_h, thanks for your question. We would recommend getting in touch with a GP or Parkinson’s Nurse to check this. You can also give our helpline a call on 0808 800 0303 and one of our experts might be able to advise.
Best wishes

My hubby has now got a date for his knee replacement in 3 weeks ,but because he has spinal stenosis the anaesthetist has said they will struggle to do a spinal and will need a G/A .
I am worried he will end up confused when he has it .
Has anyone else had general anaesthetic and had any issues .
Hello @jo_h, it’s lovely to hear from you and we’re glad to hear your husband has now got a date for his knee replacement. We understand that you’re worried about him getting confused when he has his knee operation due to the general anaesthetic.
The most important thing is to make sure his healthcare team know about his Parkinson’s so they can take this into consideration for the operation and his care before and afterwards. This will mean that anything about your husband’s Parkinson’s that could create problems can be taken into account so he can still be treated properly.
We’ve got information on our website on going into hospital for surgery which you might find helpful: Going into hospital for surgery | Parkinson's UK.
If you still have concerns we are here for you. Our helpline team can give advice and support for your husband’s surgery. You can reach them on 0808 800 0303. You can also ask to speak to a Parkinson’s nurse.
We hope the operation goes well.
All our best

Hi
I had both knees replaced 20 years and just had my right hip replaced at the start of this year. For the knees I had a spinal injection with out any problems and back to work 3 weeks first time and 4 weeks to second time. Never had any problems and watched the second one by monitor in the operating theatre as the carried out the whole process.
Now 20years on having my hip replaced that was very interesting? As I now have Parkinson there was a problem having anaesthetic but they decided the an injection in the spine would be the best. The anearhetist injected my right side first. After 10 minutes or so he put a second injection in the other side. The nex I knew about it was when I woke up on the ward. After coming around I needed the toilet, I forgot that I had had the operation done as I was trying to get out of bed a nurse came to stop me. I asked what was going on and where was I. She called a Dr he said that I was allosanating l this lasted 3 days. I was fine and the Dr said that it was due to the amount of anaesthetic I had been given. All was well and I quite enjoyed it myself.
Just looked when you posted this hopefully all went well
