Does anyone know if there is a forum where i can find local reputable trades people. I need to get our garden sorted and our house needs various things doing like new carpets, flooring, painting etc and DIY jobs

Hi, if you signed up to your branch of nextdoor.co.uk you should be able to search for or enquire about recommendations from (usually) genuine local folk.

That sounds like a big job to take on. We are not able to recommend specific tradespeople, but your local council or trusted community networks may be able to help. Citizens Advice also has guidance on finding reputable traders.

I’m a member of the U3A (University of the Third Age’ and they have ads in their regular ‘magazines’ I have found a brilliant handyman who I have used several times since. It’s not the sort of place many would think to advertise, so I think they are always worth following up as they are probably reliable. Obviously you shouldn’t assume and always use your head but as a starting point I always feel I am on pretty safe ground. Of course you would need to be a member of the U3A but you might want to have a look at that - you could find yourself with a new hobby or interest as a bonus to your search for reliable tradesmed lol
