Hello
I’m new here. My husband was diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy six years ago, which has recently worsened, and his physiotherapist has advised him to see his GP re possible Parkinsons. She has writt1en to his PN consultant and he has an appointment next week.
We booked some time ago on a World Cruise in January 2026 and as yet don’t have travel insurance, but this needs fixing before the end of September when we have to pay the final amount for the cruise - which is a LOT of money. Insurers won’t even give you a quote if you are awaiting a diagnosis of anything.
Two questions. The first is can anyone give us an idea of how long we might wait for the relevant tests to be done? The second is can anyone give us an idea of the likely extra premium we might have to pay if Parkinsons is diagnosed? Remember he already has a diagnosis of PN and it doesn’t seem to add a lot to the premiums.
I must add that we do have private medical insurance we can use if the% NHS waiting times are too long.
His neurologist has said more than once (including on the most recent appointment) that there is no evidence that he is Parkinsonian, but all the symptoms are very similar to those of PN.
Thanks for reading this.
