Vascular Parkinsonism

My husband has had various scans and tests and different doctors have diagnosed Vascular Dementia, Vascular Parkinsonism or Parkinsons! He doesn’t have mobility problems but does suffer badly from memory loss, anxiety and confusion for which he has been recommended group therapy. However, the waiting list is going to be months and I wonder if anyone knows of organisations which provide group therapy which could help these problems - we don’t mind paying. It has also been suggested that he take Memantine - this seems to be an Alzheimer’s drug which may help with anxiety. At the end of the day it would be great to have a definitive diagnosis and drugs or therapy which may help.

Hi @SUET1,

Welcome to the Parkinson’s UK forum.

I’m sorry to hear of your husband’s recent diagnosis, I’m sure you this hasn’t been easy on either of you. Although he hasn’t officially been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, we have a newly diagnosed section on website with some useful information and support to help come to terms with the news. you can find this section here -

To answer your question about therapy, we have a entire section on complimentary therapies which includes a list of useful contacts for different forms of therapy, including group therapies. This section will probabky give you the answers you need and you can find it here -

Lastly, if you need additional help and support on this, we have a free and confidential helpline with a team of friendly advisers who’d be happy to help. Do give us a call on 0808 800 0303 or email us at [email protected].

I hope you find this information helpful.
