Waiting for diagnosis

I am 70 years old and waiting for a diagnosis Parkinsons or parkinsonism caused by arteries getting blocked. I have an occasional tremor and cogwheeling to the left hand and arm, unsteady on my legs due to the left leg/foot playing up, I also have muscle problems to bladder and bowels and a week swallow.

I had an MRI on the head but at the moment everything is on hold due to virus so any results or diagnosis seem unlikely as the specialist clinic I attend is shut down. So I am not sure what the outcome will be. I keep telling myself I am imagining things and making a fuss over nothing. but the physiotherapist thinks there is something neurological going on.

Hi @Cobbit,

Welcome to the Parkinson’s UK forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m so sorry that you are feeling this way, it’s quite understandable if you’re feeling frustrated and confused at the moment. I’m sure it doesn’t help that you’re unable to get your results for your MRI scan due to the current pandemic. However; it may be helpful for you to visit our website regarding some of the symptoms that you have shared, we have information on tremors, muscle problems, and bladder and bowel problems. This information might help to reassure you that you’re not “making a fuss over nothing” and hopefully brings you some clarity. My main advice to you is to not doubt yourself about what you are experiencing and to consult with GP if you notice any other symptoms.

We also have a free and confidential helpline with a team of great advisers who would be happy to provide you with more information and support and can answer any questions that you may have. Unfortunately, our helpline desk is closed for the bank holiday, however, you can give us a call on Tuesday on 0808 800 0303 from 9am to 7pm or email us at [email protected].

I hope you find this information helpful and I’m sure you’ll hear from some of our members with more helpful information.

Best wishes,
Reah

Hello Cobbit

Just to say Hi & welcome. Strange times all round. My husband was much the same age when he first developed symptoms, was diagnosed with PD 18 months ago after a positive DaTscan, but it now seems likely he has something other than PD, probably DLB, though only time will tell. The waiting game is something most people here are well aware of so we feel for you, especially at this time. Hope you can continue contact with your physiotherapist and keep active as far as you can, that will be helpful regardless of your final diagnosis.

Best wishes.
