Wegovy on the NHS vs private prescription, my honest experience so far

Been lurking here for a while and finally wanted to share since so many posts helped me before I started.

Started Wegovy about 4 months ago. Went the private route since my BMI didn’t quite hit the NHS threshold at the time, even though I had a couple of weight related health issues going on. Went through Weight Medics for the prescription since a mate had used them before, doctor consultation first, dose reviewed properly, none of that sketchy “fill a form get meds next day” stuff some sites do.

Starting dose was rough for about 10 days, nausea mainly, barely any appetite which honestly was the point. That settled by week 3. Titrated up every 4 weeks like normal. Down about a stone and a half so far, nothing dramatic but steady, and that’s exactly what I wanted honestly, didn’t want to lose it so fast that I end up with the loose skin and gaunt face thing everyone talks about.

Few things I wish someone told me earlier:

  • Protein intake matters more than I expected, helped a lot with energy and probably with keeping muscle

  • The injection pen is genuinely easy, took maybe one practice go to feel confident

  • Constipation hit me harder than nausea did, worth having something on hand for that

  • Getting a proper check in every month made a difference, dose got adjusted once when side effects were a bit much

Not trying to sell anything, just sharing what worked. Happy to answer questions if anyone’s deciding between NHS route and going private, or just starting out and nervous about the first few weeks.

Congrats on the steady progress! A stone and a half in four months is a solid rate—losing it gradually is definitely the smartest move for keeping muscle and avoiding loose skin.

Your side effect tips are spot on:

Fiber/Hydration: Constipation is super slept on compared to nausea. Having fiber or electrolytes ready early on is a lifesaver.

Protein Priority: Hitting solid protein daily is key to beating that low-calorie fatigue.

Clinician Check-ins: Having an actual doctor oversee your titration—instead of auto-stepping up every 4 weeks—saves a lot of unnecessary misery.

Awesome of you to share this for anyone debating private vs. NHS options!

Hello @weightmedics

Watch your protein and your Parkinson’s medication ! Not. at the same time ! Eat protein chicken , beans etc. around 1 hour before medication and around the same time after .. protein will stop the Parkinson’s medication from working.
