YOPD Dorset

Good Morning

I’ve been diagnosed for just over a year and while I’ve had good care and met some great people I would like to have some sort of circle of people in Dorset with YOPD who understand the problems (and positives) of being younger.

Is there anyone out there??

Stuart

Hi I’d be interested in finding , or establishing if mecessary, a yopd group in Dorset. I was diagnosed aged 37 in 2017… keen to meet other people finding a way to thrive despite the pd.

I believe there is a group starting very soon (Sept 24), not sure where in Dorset yet but I’m trying to find out. There are three main groups where I live (just north of Bournemouth) in Poole & District, Christchurch and East Dorset.

Was involved with running a young persons’ group from the Poole Branch a few years ago but it petered out as no-one took it over. One month we’d meet in a pub somewhere and the next month do something different (real tennis/ten pin bowling/firework cruises/table tennis comps/that sort of stuff) and then back to the pub again.

I’ve been involved with this for the last 22 years and I still count as a young person!!

Hi, Stuart!

You might find local support groups or online communities specifically for young-onset Parkinson’s in Dorset. Connecting with local Parkinson’s organizations or searching social media platforms could help you find others in your area.

Hi Stuart

Did you manage to find anything for YOPD in Dorset. We moved to Dorset from Sussex 2.5 years ago now and I haven’t found anything for people with Parkinson’s outside of working hours. In Sussex there was lots of activities for us to take part in outside of working hours.

Let me know how you have got on?
